Hunter Volleyball hosted its inaugural Spring Mixed Social tournament on 26-27 September at the Hunter Sports High School. Five teams competed over the weekend and at times enjoyed the rent-a-crowd spectators from the Junior Development Workshop taking place on the neighbouring court!
The purpose of this tournament is to provide competition opportunities for regional associations and bring everyone together to play socially. Due to COVID-19, we were prevented from hosting inter-regional teams this year, but look forward to hosting our country neighbours in 2021.
After a very blustery and chilly start Saturday morning, the teams settled into the combined tournament draw, made plenty of song requests, and shared some laughs. The vibe was relaxed and comfortable, and games were a welcome relief from the months of pressures of COVID restrictions on work and play.
In the higher division, the Spice Girls took out top honours after defeating Gleny & the Jets, with Becky’s Bouncers coming in third. In the social division, Red Setters defeated Nisshoku.
Thanks to everyone who competed in this inaugural event. We hope you enjoyed your prizes and we look forward to seeing you and many more teams at the 2021 tournament.
